day six : lunch time art history

April 1, 2008

while browsing through the art supply store on my lunch break today they had these rulers with measuring on one side (obviously) and artist chronology on the other for 45 cents! so i picked up a “rulers of the art world” and “rulers of impressionism” ruler, hoping to stumble across some artists i wasn’t familiar with…which of course wasn’t too hard. so, today’s artist of note is:

Eugène Boudin

French Impressionist painter (1824-1898)
Painted many outdoor and marine images & was close friends with Claude Monet. Exhibited in several Parisian Salons and won numerous awards over the course of his painting career. Had a profound affection for Normandy and Brittany, which inspired much of his painting.

Rivage de Portrieux, Cotes-du-Nord (The Coast of Portrieux, Cotes-du-Nord) 1874; Oil on canvas, 85 x 148 cm

Bathers on the Beach at Trouville 1869; Oil on Wood, Musée d’Orsay. Paris.
