day eight : mash-ups.

May 12, 2008

Hiroshi Sugimoto’s photography is now being used for an ad campaign to help “rebrand” the Hirshhorn museum in DC! The first time I saw or learned about any of his work was at a show at the Hirshhorn, and it’s kind of fitting really (I’m sure by no coincidence). If you’re not familiar with his work, read up! He’s so amazingly poetic with film.

Also, I bothered to actually learn a little bit about the math behind the Golden Section (listed as the Golden Ratio on Wikipedia) today, since it’s on the back of my business cards and just about EVERYWHERE in the world of architecture. I’ve gotta admit, I think it’s a graphic that’s getting a little played out and generally unoriginal these days, although I can see how it’s still considered a beautiful standard across all fields of study.

As personal cards go, I was thinking of getting some personal calling cards made up. I’m moving at the beginning of June (26 days till I sign the lease!!!) and instead of sending out “I’ve moved” notices, maybe a little MOO card with a letter to the people that need to know would be appropriate? Not to mention they’re just so frigging cool and I want to get them to have around anyway. i mean, look:

i know, right!?

FINALLY found my camera seat so i could download some photos. of course, everything’s up on my flickr site already, but here’s a taste for ya:

it was pretty cold and rainy, with some ice still on the ground, but decided to go for a little hike through Kent, Connecticut anyhow. i’m surprised any photos came out (and i didn’t ruin my camera in the rain), but there were a handful that i liked. i wish the sky wasn’t blank white, but hopefully on my next trip to CT in July i’ll have the chance to try some shots again. a little more color and some better weather might make for some slightly more exciting photos.

maybe that’s an idea for a new photo set? rainy day photos?
